we also serve who . . .
So I'm doing this thing. I sign on to a phone help line for canvassers in swing states. I'm not much help, honestly. Most of the time they either figure out the answer while they're trying to explain the question to me or they come up with a doozy that's not in the FAQ. But I do have a tech support chat room to hang out in and fail to get answers from.
I wrote a little under 600 words today, picked up two applications, and grouted and grouted and grouted. Now I need to buff and buff and buff and buff, and scrape and scrape at the mortar that's stuck to the tile, and on Sunday, seal the stuff, and then we get our washing machine back!!!
How I see the last few chapters:
21(the one I'm working on): Candelario takes our guy to spend a couple of weeks at Araceli's house. Posadas, pozole, menudo, tamales, and a Christmas tree. Talks to children for the first time: dreams for the first time: and gets funny looks from Tia Citlali. Araceli makes the comment about "the seven dwarfs" (the men who live in the motel unit in Salinas).
22 reluctant return to Salinas. Slow work. Candelario meeting Araceli at the college, more and more restless. End of chapter: Candelario's wish.
23 arrival of truck, move to Watsonville (same lane as Araceli and Citlali). Our guy works with Candelario gardening in Aptos. More funny looks from Citlali. One or two scary questions he can sidestep.
24 Araceli confronts our guy: "what are you?" etc. Araceli's questions uncover the fact that Meranda and Carleen are alive and working together. Citlali's protection and advice. "I thought I might be safe, now."
(gap in time, here)
25 starts with peacefulness: Araceli teaching our guy to read on his own, getting pregnant by Candelario. Citlali's warning. Wish activity (unsure about what). Dithering about leaving, watchers and Meranda and Carleen arrive. cliffhanger.
26 Araceli's wish.
Epilog. Life as our guy lives it now, without the connection to the conduit, without the "instinct," without the ability to answer any question he is asked. Win some, lose some.
Araceli's child's wish.
