Well. We didn't get enough blackberries to make jam -- believe it or not, our favorite blackberry patch (next to the UCSC Agroecology Farm) isn't far enough along yet -- but there were enough little foxy grapes to make a grape juice and lime drink to go with a really fine blackberry pie. And despite the subject header. no goosebaerries.
I have only written 500+ words on Afterwar since Friday. But Chapter Five of The Donor is up.
Somehow, at Making Light, I have maneuvered myself into the position of Defender of Magic Realism. In the "Story for beginners" thread and the "INtroduction to New Magics" thread. Why did I do that? There's only so much to be said, and I said it all already, but people keep saying things that make me grumpy because they are ignorant and assuming.
On other fronts, I went to Xi Gong practice with my friend Elizabeth yesterday even though I didn't want to and then I was really glad I did.
And I have been mending the front yard, which is still a mess.
Memo to self: roses do need to be watered now and then in the dry season.
We also voted yesterday -- yes on Measure X by mail, which I will explain when I do not have the nice fellow waiting for his turn at the machine.

Magic Realism
Sorry the others are making you grumpy. Berries should cheer you up.
Domestic gooseberries? What are they like? My papa liked wild gooseberry pie, they took all day to harvest enough, they slashed us like paper cuts (NOT as badly but as much as raspberries/blackberries) and no matter how much sugar one used, they were puckery evn cooked. He was the only one in the house who would eat it and once we bought the farm that they grew on, it was my duty as the wildlife/wild forage specialist to go get them once a year for a pie. goddess, I miss him! And It's been past five years.
Best wishes!
