On that definition, I'm reasonably strongly against "literary ambition". It seems to me to be all about 'newness' and not at all about 'goodness'. New things have value, experiments must be tried, so that the useful techniques get discovered and put to work -- but what's important is where they make contribution to the *story*, which is the important thing. That's why Heinlein is an important writer -- he *put things to work*.
