Oog, Like a snail. Byplay is hard.

So I wrote, what? 774 words, and the chapter comes in at 2900 a little. Fooey. THe nice fellow's been bored at work and he keeps calling me. Also my friend Marilyn with an invitation to Seema Weatherwax's 99th birthday party (right this second, I'll leave in a minute) -- how often does that happen? And Jay inviting Emma to take a gig which would pay $50 but she's not feeling well and she doesn't think she's ready until she's found out a few things about doing these. We had to have a heart-to-heart about this. I thought it was my job to help her clarify what she needed befcould feel ready to take a gig. I think I hit on the right thing because she seemed much calmer and happier when she went back to bed.

Otherwise: we saw the Dirty Dozen Brass Band last night. Oddly, they were at their best when they were doing either old funeral standards or funk, and not so inspiring when they were mixing it up. Not what I would have expected. Of course, I somehow missed part of the description and I was expected old guys in suits and not young guys in denim board shorts and baseball caps. "Good, though!"

And now I know why I'm usually such a hermit stick in the mud. All this gadding about this summer makes me feel weird and anxious.
