I haven't written but a couple-few paragraphs since just before Hawaii. When I haven't been busy I've been wiped out and making it worse with stupidness. Today I will spend getting Emma and myself to various medical appointments, then the nice fellow is taking her to San Francisco to spend the summer living with my parents and working in the labor law office of the nice lady downstairs and sometimes babysitting her children. I think that then excessive busy-ness dies down for a while. Though I still have long days with my befuddled friend and Bingo to contend with and so on.

Anyway, I had another of those long narrative dreams this morning, this one with a plot and resolution. It's not the kind of story I write but I think I need to remember it. I don't know why.You really don't care about what follows, but I do, for some reason )

If you go to Senator Dick Durbin's website, you can find the full text of the speech he made about torture in American facilities.

The speech is true, and is not extreme -- it says, "look, something wrong is happening here, and we ought to acknowledge it and do something about it right now and not wait forty years like we did for the Japanese internment camps." It says we're better than the people who produced gulags and concentration camps.

And then he was attacked for using the words Nazi and gulag in the same paragraph as the United States, and everybody expected him to apologize, and it was reported that he apologized, but if you read it for yourself you will see that he didn't, really, and that's a damned good thing. What's wrong with the Democratic Party is that they don't stand up like he did, often.

Go read the speech, it was good, it was true, and people should be sending him support for telling the truth and we should be telling him never to apologize again.

Edited to be truer.

Just a couple-few paragraphs, but good, since I only had half an hour (now I take the girl to the dentist, later to physical therapy).

Somebody somewhere said they had seen instructions for using a blog to post chapters of a novel. The important part was about how to index it so that people could read it forwards instead of backwards. Where was that? I had thought it was supposed to be at the Nanowrimo site, but it isn't there as far as I can tell.

Oh, Emma's gone for the summer. But Frank isn't.

And since yesterday, among all the other things I had to do, I wrote 908 words, for a total of 58750 words. Which means I'm about three-quarters done, by word count, though I have another whole segment and some work on the vignettes to do. Maybe I will be done by the end of July, or August anyway.
