Died at 500 words, so it won't get shared, but it does exist, and in the same directory as the others, so if I ever figure out how to resuscitate it, I know where to look.

On another front, in California:

NO on 1a and 1b. They're Schwarzennegger lies and bad public policy and a stupid way to deal with money. I voted wrong on 1b, by the way: I'm never again going to vote before hearing Gary Patton (land use report, KUSP, 8:50 a.m.). 1a is the constitutional ammendment which makes all transportation money ironclad -- you can't transfer out funds to save some other program or something. 1b is a deeply flawed transportation bill which has no public transportation language to speak of. NO on 85 -- the one that doesn't let girls get abortions: and NO on 90,the one that cripples eminent domain. There have been abuses of eminent domain now and then, but eminent domain is a weapon for securing open space, low-income housing, public transportation . . . Local folks: go ahead and vote the school board slate you get from the Measure G people. As for City Council, I have only two important recommendations: vote for my man Bruce Van Allen and do not vote for Lynn Robinson. She's a fake: she says she's a grassroots organizer but all her endorsements are business people, all her connections are rich people, and all her issues are property-values and white privilege issues. I guess the nice fellow and I shouldn't have slacked off on the Friends of Lighthouse Field, because they endorsed Robinson, even though all the candidates said they were in favor of dog parks. Which makes FOLF a stalking horse for a faction of the yuppies, I guess.

Other than that, Cynthia is all about the quality of life in the core downtown residential neighborhood (you know, the historical house and big street tree neighborhood), and Mike is all about balancing the budget and funding social services, Simba is unfortunately not serious, and Chris is not ready for prime time. I voted for Simba anyway, which may have been a tactical error, but I was carried away by the vision of Simba in a City Council meeting. And I voted for Mike, because even though you can't rely on him to take the right side of labor issues and some development issues, you can rely on him to be consistent with his core values and you can rely on him to choose the right side when he doesn't think it will cost his agenda anything.

I finally figured out why the initiative system in California is so broken. State legislators need a two-thirds majority to approve any expenditure, but a voter initiative to change the state Constitution needs only a simple majority. You see?

I've gotten a nice little introduction but I have to go to bed now. I'll finish it in the morning.

What's a good antivirus program that is not Norton?

Norton usses too much computer.
