A clear way to think about this

PZ Meyers at Pharyngula has an analogy for ocean trawling that explains the problem with it better than the usual.

Unfortunately, his assertion that nobody would stand for bulldozing the whole landscape in order to get a few deer to eat is probably incorrect.
