If you work in education or work with children, you have to have your fingerprints done often. (different kinds of jobs have different jurisdictions and they don't talk to each other very well, even when the same people are doing the fingerprints. I wish I didn't have to own a car but public transportation isn't great in California in general, and Santa Cruz County has a rural component which makes it even worse.
It's really interesting to encounter a grown person not knowing what matzoh is. It's an unleavened bread which we eat at this time of year to commemmorate leaving slavery in Egypt. Recent scholarship suggests that there never was an enslaved Jewish community in Egypt, and that the whole story was trumped up to support a nationalist war some time in the BCE years. But the story is a good one, and the holiday -- Passover -- is the only one I really care about observing.
