I'm a 0

According to the BBC Sex ID test, I come out with a 0 score on their scale, which means I have no brain sex. Or maybe I have a double brain sex, I don't know, because when they tested separately for factors that they thought were masculine or feminine I got equally high scores. And I got high ones, too, except on the eye reading one. The eye reading one is dumb, though, as anybody who's read The Film Sense knows. But some of the tests didn't have statistical significance, even according to their wimpy explanations, so I think they were just in there because somebody thought it would be fun to write a java script for them.

On another front, stupid backstory keeps wanting to make an angsty drama and I want to write a romantic comedy.

Stupid backstory.

I have 25% of the male brain, apparently.

No surprises. I score off-the-charts female. Sigh.

Maybe you have another charcater in your mind trying to come out ? When that hapens to me I write the damn backstory the way it wants to be written and by the time I am done, I find out it was for another story altogether. And then it leaves my brain to go back to the orginal story and leave me alone :) Just a thought

That actually is a good thought. I do have a feeling there are two stories here -- one is angsty, the other comedic.

I know I found some of my best characters dressed up in another story...I just had to out them and find them their own story :)

In this case it seems to be all the same characters but different sides to their personalities, maybe.

My rule is: write to the end of the draft whenever possible, and then see what you'ge vot, before doing anything drastic. I'm about 3K words from the end of the draft tonight.

Good luck :)

I scored about 25% male. Interestingly, I scored rather low on the empathy questions, but moderately high (7 out of 10) on the eyes. I wonder if reading Making Comics made a difference there? Scott McCloud has a long section about the anatomy of facial expression.

I got 71% on the one where they moved objects. I'm pretty sure all the time I've spent playing chess helped me there.

My ring and index fingers seem to be exactly the same length.

That took a while on dialup! My Verizon kit came today, but I can't install it until they tell me the account is ready.

I turned up 25% female and since I tested male on almost everything (including 11 on the rotation thing) else, I think it's the number of words I was able to put in for synonyms. They say my left thumb on top means right-brained, but I used to have complete mixed-brain dominance. I haven't had a real test for that since the stroke. And one of the thngs they don't count for is arthritis. My right index finger curves in (and rotates in) so much now that I had to rotate the ruler slightly to stay in the center on the top half.

(This is the second night that all three of the cats have slept together in the recliner while I've been online. They're so cuuuuute.)

I thought about that last night, but they have good ears and just me getting out of the desk chair may make them move. I'll try if they do it again tonight.

Clever backstory. I like stories that have two "moods" simultaneously. I don't see any problem with a romantic comedy that's built on top of an angsty drama, though I would expect the opposite to be extremely difficult to execute well.

I scored around 30% male. However I did that by scoring fairly well on every test. Which, it appears, suggests a balanced male/female brain. Though I suspect it really means it's got a lot more to do with having good "test technique". The only things I did really well at were "systemising" and "empathising". Personally I think I learned a lot more about how web tests work than I learned about myself.

Eric! Where the heck have you been, boy? We've been worried on rasfc!

I scored 50% male brain. Doesn't surprise me muchly, I have to say, and at the same time I agree with you on the tests themselves. I've posted some more details on my own LJ.

Does anybody know how they decided which of the responders were male and which female? Because I'm sure they didn't ask me... (and I took the test twice just to check). (Oh nevermind, it's probably based on the full-size test that they apparently ran under better experimental conditions in 2005, as explained on their "more info" page (http://www.bbc.co.uk/science/humanbody/sex/articles/more_info.shtml).)
