things I said I'd do, but didn't

Okay, the whole ploy of saying out loud and writing down here what I'm going to do is not working: I end up sleeping all afternoon anyway.  So last Friday I was going to make signs for the Friday night vigil. Nope.  I did chat with Frank, which was useful.  Saturday I was going to help my friend Connie at the University childcare center playground building.  I didn't.  I barely got out of the house before dark.

Before I leave --on Monday! -- I have to do the following things:

get my phone ready, which means:
-get my phone activated for international use
-get a Central European adapter for my phone charger

get my car legalized, which means:
-smog it
-get the smog certificate over to DMV and pay parking tickets and get my stickers
-by parking permit for 2009
-(ideally) get my late-registration cleared

pack
(mostly done: I have to winnow the pile of potential clothes, but meds, underwear, socks, and warm accessories are packed: and it's hard to pack for two weeks of cold weather, because how many times do I want to brave Czech laundry facilities versus how much can I carry in one small check-in and one small carry-on, wait, Frank totally has a washing machine in his kitchen, though he has no dryer: I think the hostel has both, though)

get the dog ready, which means
-call brother-in-law to decide on when to deliver her
-print out instructions which I have written
-deliver dog, instructions, leash, and all three medicines

go to the dentist, twice:
-once to drop off the mold for my mouth guard (Truffle ate my old one, which is one reason why I'm exhausted all the time: I need that mouth guard to get any benefit from my sleep!) and to get my new bridge fitted
-once to pick up the new mouth guard

get a present for Frank and Amiruth, which means
-buy peanut butter in a plastic jar for the check-in luggage
-buy baby bok choy, broccoli, and cilantro for the carry-on luggage
-pick lemons and herbs for the carry-on luggage

call my friend  who has had a death in the family and give her the flowers a mutual friend far away has asked me to take her, along with an invitation to visit the mutual friend this spring

The car is the hard one.

Meanwhile, we're having a heat   warmth wave and I can just see how annoying it's going to be to be dressed for the weather in Prague when it's going  to be swimsuit weather here.

And I have been awake for two hours and I want to go back to bed.

It doesn't help that I keep flashing on the fact that the nice fellow isn't going with me and having these brief crying spells, after which I want to sleep again.

Hugs, "the nice fellow" moniker always made me smile when reading your journal.

His memory will go with you.

And how do you smog a car?

You take it to the smog-specializing mechanic who tests it for emissions and either gives you a smog certificate or not, and if not, if you've chosen wisely, they repair it until they can give it a certificate.

Ah, we just call that an Emissions Test. But we haven't had smog here like you guys have.

Check with your bank whether they'll block your credit cards if they suddenly show up with weird payments in Europe. A lot of credit card companies are now blocking 'unexpected purchases,' so you might find yourself without access to your funds.

Have a great time in Prague.

I've already talked to my credit union: they're expecting me to spend a lot of money in Prague!

Your To Do list makes mine pale into insignificance!

Hope you have a great time in Prague.

It's only so long because I've been sleeping through the last two weeks and more.
