The last time I had palachenken (though I think the version I had was spelled palaczintas; is that the difference between Czech and Hungarian?) was when a bunch of us had a special dinner at The Bakery in Chicago (now gone, alas). This particular dessert was a pile of pancakes with an almond honey (IIRC) filling in between each of the layers, served in slices like a layer cake.

When I next visited my parents, I raved to my mother about it, and she said that palaczinta was just Hungarian for "pancake," not for that particular version of pancakes. My great-grandmother was from Hungary, and a few words filtered down to my mother via her mother, but sadly, all I retain are recipes for paprikash and a few other things.
