Maybe it just seems like five dogs from your descriptions of their behaviour! :-) We have one pooch now - a young, sprightly, intelligent German Shepherd with an alpha dog streak a mile wide. He needs a lot of work. BB is pack leader but Diezel Dog is still not quite sure where I am (or my mother) in the pecking order. I have to keep reminding him.
We've had two dogs at one time in the past - and even two dogs make a pack - listening to each other instead of you. Lots of people say two dogs aren't twice as muich work as one - but I think they are more than twice as much. One dog is plenty for me.
