If it is published by Tor, though, it probably has more and better stuff going on in it than in my description.

And I would never ever rule out a Southern Gothic as being a good piece of literature, sight unseen.

Just now I'm furious with the genre because my stepmother wished this book on me and I cou;dn't stop reading it though I wasn't enjoying it, learning from it, experiencing transcendence from it, or getting any of my eppetites met from it. I'm blaminmg the whole genre for that book, and it's probably -- no certainly -- not fair.
