off my stride (540 words)

Too damned much writing about writing and not enough writing. Part of the reason is that I'm sort of tangled up in a stretch where there has to be a lot of information passed, and I'm self-conscious about it since that's kind of what I was talking about in the last post, in a way.

I'm going to clean for a while. I never got my room clean before, but I think I'm going to do stuff in the downstairs.

Been there, did my own share of cat vacuuming and finally just plowed through those scenes. So just write them. They can be messy. You can fix them later. I had a few days off over the last couple of weeks and now I'm 4 scenes from completing the WIP. I'm a burst writer, but at some point, I just had to sit and write. And if I, the grand procrastinator, can do it, anyone can. :)

I'm just pecking at it. 500 words or so at a time until it gets better. Though today it looks to be closer to a thousand, which is the minimum I'm happy with. I want to do 2000, but it hardly ever happens.

Sometimes what I'm doing now feels like when I have had an extremely detailed narrative dream and I can't remember it in the morning. Except I actually can. Just not perfectly.

Speaking of sacred harp, do you ever go to the Santa Cruz shape-note group? Seeing your sacred-harp mentions makes me wonder whether perhaps you are (1) someone who does go to the local group and who I know by sight but who I hadn't connected with the name before, or (2) someone who might be interested in it but hadn't known it existed. Anyway, if #2, you can see a blurb about it if you scroll down this Community Music School page, but for this month only they're having a party on the 14th instead of meeting on the first and third Tuesdays.

I'm #2. The only time I ever sang in a Sacred Harp chorus was as a child at the Berkeley Folk Festival, the same one where I saw ALmeda Riddle.

Thank you -- Tuesdays are problematic for me, as I often (as today) have to work at the Bingo fundraiser for my daughter's band.

It does always meet on Tuesdays, except that every August Santa Cruz hosts the Northern California regional convention on a Sunday, sometimes proceeded by a singing school the day before.

If you ever do have the time/inclination, I'll note that the group is very Santa Cruz-ish in every way -- good-humored folkies and the like.
