Thank you for the story about the gorilla. I don't think it is anthropomorphising when it comes to the apes. I remember watching oragn utans in (probably) London Zoo many years ago when the kids were small. One was playing with a young one. The youngster was playing on a rope and threatening to swing towards either a female or adolescent male (can't remember now). But every time the youngster grasped the rope and made as though to swing, the older orang utan would duck behind its arms and cringe. This went on for a minute or two, and then the youngster really did swing and the rope actually wasn't long enough to reach and I'm sure the older one knew it wasn't long enough and they'd both been fooling with one another becuase at any point, the older one could have moved away, so the cringing had to be playful.
