Just to pass the gap between sleeping and waking this morning I tallied up the actual projects I have -- rewrites, revisions, and new writes -- just the novels: besides the two in submission, I have fourteen or so . . . since many are close to ready and only need to be revised by the new more maturer and betterer (sic) writer that I am now, I think it may be possible to do one and a half of them a year. Which means if my work can keep me alive I'll outlive my mother.

And that's without new ideas, which do not seem to come hard to me.
