I'm off to run a kajillion errands. I'm not satisfied with the way the relocation is working out. For one thing, here I am at about half as long as I want the chapter to be and the Boss is sending my guy off -- the invasion is about to happen, and I can't figure out how to get my guy to witness it. For another, no pie. But I kind of like how the questions are playing out.

It's a cliche, the person or thing which can only answer questions literally. My guy can do a little better than that, but he does have to have the right questions to answer. And so he tries to manipulate the Boss into asking the right questions, with mixed success.

In revision, I'm going to need to check his dialog for consistency. I think he might be sounding stupider than necessary at some times, especially considering the level of contemplation he's arriving at by now. He should sound stupid sometimes, but not androidy -- Meranda gave him an instinct for that purpose, so he wouldn't be too stiff and weird.

My kid is all thrilled about the glossary of medical Spanish his teacher gave him, and ablut the fact that his Spanish teacher is also a nurse. He says he spends his afternoons as a beach bum -- he goes down to the lake with his MCAT prep books and his Spanish, reads and studies, and swims in the lake, which he says is not cold, until it gets too dark, and then he finds a place to park so he can sleep. The advantage of being so near to the casinos is that people pulling over by the road at night might be paying customers and people are just not so fussy about it as they are down here. He spends a few days in a motel here and there to charge his batteries.

He looks good. The exercise (swimming, weight lifting at the community college), the sun, and his diet is actually good -- he's subsisting on easy to eat fruits and veggies from the grocery store and one balanced, nutritious meal from a decent restaurant. And he's happy to be making progress towards his goals.

So homelessness isn't always a tragedy -- when it's temporary, and part of a plan for an optimistic future.
