First Flush training last night, which means it's the beginning of "will it ever rain?" season. The shape of the beach is changing: the currents are doing that braiding thing they do, where the warm current comes inland and the cold current goes out to sea and the waves become more wavelike. Steamers Lane is wall-to-wall surfers. I imagine that if I were driving down by Martinelli's it would smell like apples: another couple weeks and it smells like vinegar. And tonight, under the redwoods, I realized there's a special smell to redwoods at night in late September. It takes me back to my freshman year at UCSC.
I'd take another helping of youth if it were offered.
