"sedges have edges, and rushes are round, but grasses have nodes from their tips to the ground” --botanist's mnemnonic I copped from Botany Photo of the Day which I have on my flist by feed! Yay feed! (can someone tell me how to make a feed for a blog that doesn't already have RSS or something attached to it?)

And, seen, I am not making this up, on the announcement board of a little church on Capitola Road between Chanticleer and 17th Avenue (Live Oak unincorporated area which was truck farms and abandoned farm houses when I moved here and is now wall to wall housing, neither cheap nor luxurious):

REASON IS THE GUILLOTINE OF FAITH

Think about it. It's true!

Ooo! Your mnemonic is better than the one G and I have been using, which was just, "Sedges have edges and rushes have brushes." I like the inclusion of grasses too.

Hmmm. "guillotine of faith" could refer to a tool of faith (used for drastic executions), or to a tool used *on* faith. Certainly many faiths apply reason heavily to their weird premises.

Yes, and yes.

Good, glad I didn't leap heavily all over one interpretation or the other!

to syndicate a feed, you have to first know the feed URL. for blogspot blogs you can usually just hang "atom.xml" at the end, like so: http://combingthesphere.blogspot.com/atom.xml. then go to http://www.livejournal.com/syn/, scroll down to the bottom and put that entire URL in the feed URL input box. click on "add feed".

if the feed already exists, LJ will tell you the account name. if it doesn't, you'll be prompted to give it an LJ user name. good practice is to take the feed's own name, if it's not too long -- this one probably is too long (i think the limit is 14); i'd take the article out.

Thanks!I knew all of this except the part about being able to make it up by hanging "atom.xml" on the end of something that dcoesn't have a link to a feed. I've been creating feeds for blogs that do have the link (sometimes when I do it lj gives me a previously-made account name, and sometimes I get to christen the feed).

Now I go do that with combing the sphere so I can read more more more science! Thank you!

So is Faith the Guillotine of Reason too? :-)
