So I'm researching a preschool or two to visit next time I go seeFrank in Prague.  I'm looking for a program like mine -- early intervention for literacy and school readiness with language minority families without a strong educational history.  I'm not, so far, finding anything much like my program.  There are a couple of reasons for this.  A major reason is that instead of investing in very early care for children, Czech Republic has invested in extended maternal leave, so children rarely participate in preschool until they are 3, though "kindergarten" is available to 2 year olds.  (I think extended maternal leave is ducky, but I also think that baby care ought to be widely available in addition).  Another is that apparently the usual response to lesser school-readiness is for parents to just hold their children out of school for another year or two despite the official mandatory school age beginning at 6.  I don't get how that works, yet.

I have found one preschool which is an intervention preschool, but it is primarily meant to be a bridge towards integrating children with health problems into regular school, and it's clearly aimed at children who are 5 and up mainly.

I've been reading its website.

There's not a lot of funny translations on the English page, but I do adore the Czechlish. Please understand, I am delighted by this, but I do not think that the Czechlish trivializes the institution or what it does.  Translation is difficult, and small glitches should be taken in good humor by everyone concerned.

First off, we have offerings of :
# graphomotorics
# logopaedic care

Which I do not know what they are, except I think they might be fine-motor therapy aimed at writing, and speech therapy respectively.

We also have ball automassage therapy, which I can't parse.  Is it those large exercise balls?

And best of all, we have:
Animal Assisted Therapy

    * Dog therapy - positive influence of dogs on people's health
    * other gnawing mammals

Words cannot express how wonderful that is, even if I can't be sure that what they mean is "and pet rodents."

I think I am going to approach these people for sure since they do have an English website and therefore I won't have to subject my friend the translator to the job of making me understood to them.
