Speaking of holy crazy people, and I was briefly, earlier this evening (well, I was talking about Harry Smith, anyway): There's this place in the south, Pasaquan, which was at one time the residence of a mad artist, Eddie Owens Martin (he apparently also went by the name of St. EOM). The plasterwork in that place is amazing. I found out about it through The Human Flower Project, which I found in some way that I forget. Anyway, the man's story is pretty much the outsider artist story, but his style is pretty cool, and there's a lot of work at that place.

On another front, I bought a "pumpernickle" loaf in a baguette form at the Farmer's Market, and I'm not sure whether to be annoyed: it's very tasty, but it's sweet, soft, and not very ryelike. It's so not ryelike that I told the kids to try it, because I think they'll like it.

Tomorrow's the day for Emma's gall bladder surgery. I'm counting on spending the day at the hospital, like I did a bit over six months ago for her spine surgery. Dr. Chang, the anesthesiologist, called earlier tonight. Is that the usual thing, or is that just our hospital?

I always had to go in and see the anesthesiologist a couple days before the surgery, but they didn't call the night before.
