Katie leaned over the edge of the coconut shell carriage to see better what was below. Right away she wished she hadn't. "Is that the Pacific Ocean?" she asked, unable to take her eyes off the vast, dark, moving surface.

"Not exactly," said the Mustard Fairy.

"What does that mean?" Katie asked.
"Have you noticed that the moon is exactly a quarter full?" asked the Mustard Fairy.
Katie looked up, expecting that somehow this would explain the water below. But she could see that the sky was full of strange stars, and that the crescent moon above her was glowing green. seeming to pulse like the multicolored stars.
"It is," Katie said, but the Mustard Fairy did not explain what the moon had to do with the water down below, or why it wasn't "exactly" the Pacific Ocean.
Katie yawned. "Oh, Wasabi," called the Mustard Fairy to one of the strange small people -- one whose clothes and skin were all the most delicate green, almost the same color as the moon -- "Help us stay awake. Tell us jokes."
