No bank in Prague will validate a money order.

One will, but they'll sit on it for five weeks.

Anybody have any advice for getting that money order cashed so my kid can pay his rent?

What a pain! He might try a local commercial money-exchange office though their fees might be very high.

Something you might consider in the future (if you haven't already): deposit the funds for him in a U.S. bank account (i.e. a checking account in his name) and then he can use the ATM card provided by the account to pull out the deposited dollars in Czech cash.

Are email money transfers between chequing/savings accounts available in US? If the aforementioned kid's bank card does work in Prague, then [livejournal.com profile] ritaxis could send an email money transfer to his chequing/savings account.
