You are a dog
Or maybe you are a mosquito, you certainly can't be human.

The highest pitched ultrasonic mosquito ringtone that I can hear is 21.1kHz
Find out which ultrasonic ringtones you can hear!

Actually I wonder if there was anything strange about it -- like maybe I was hearing undertones -- because they didn't sound so very high-pitched to me.

Yeah, I'd be highly surprised if the average set of computer speakers could reproduce those tones without introducing undertones, really.

Hmm, I could only hear up to 15.8, so there presumably is something to it.

I could only hear the first three -- that is, on the others I could here a sort of "click" at what was presumably the beginning and end of the tone, but no tone in between. On the other hand, maybe the others were just being phase-cancelled by my tinnitis. (Hmm, which reminds me, when I had my routine physical the other week, I asked for a hearing checkup and I haven't heard anything about scheduling an appointment yet.)

I wonder how accurate this test is. I can clearly hear the tone just below 21.1. I'm definitely not a preteen! And how exactly does one "look after your ears"?

Don't let them near loud sounds.

Yes, definite problem there. After the first few, the tone kept going down in pitch instead of up, and then up again, seemingly at random... I've never heard of these "undertone" things (I know about harmonics that are higher than the base sound), but obviously something of this kind is going on. And yes, also a lot to do both with the quality of your speakers and with the volume you keep them at. I can also hear the 21.1 Hz sound, but I'm sure I'm not hearing it right :-)

(OTOH, I hear the sound of the screen on my Palm, and I've been told it's a pitch that's normally too high for anybody to hear, certainly grown-ups. I hear it without trying and it annoys me slightly. Either I do have very good hearing, or my Palm screen is pitched low...)

I only got 10kHz, but I already know my hearing is starting to go.

Oops, then I tried [livejournal.com profile] sciamanna's suggestion and turned my speakers up and I heard all the way to 22.4kHz.
