I caught the virus from brooksmoses. It goes:

Grab the nearest book.
Open the book to page 23.
Find the fifth sentence.
Post the text of the sentence in your journal, along with these instructions.

Used only for certain taxa included in Index of Rare and Endangered Plants of California(CNPS). some of which have been accorded such legal status by the state of California.

Okay, now what? We know that Brooks has a technical book close to hand, and I have The Jepson Manual of Higher Plants of California. But we knew that already.

I'm not sure what now, actually -- though I did see some variants of the meme that involved copying various previous peoples' sentences so there was a sort of longish surreal list in one's post. (Perhaps it started out with fiction, such that one might get an approximation of a story fragment out of the agglomeration.)

And, indeed, I have a whole bookshelf of technical books beside my computer chair; which one is nearest changes if I shift around a little bit.
