My phone just rang. I picked it up and a (maleish) robot voice said, in a breathless, oddly-accented rush: "This is a cruz alert. There is a suspicious object near the main gate. The main gate is closed at this time. Please avoid the main gate."
The robot voice myust have been well constructed because there was no repeat and I got the message and understood it right away. I didn't know UCSC had an automated phone alert for what will probably turn out to be lite-brite sets or something, but I understood what the call was. I even know why I got it: either residual from the nice fellow's employment there or because Emma has my number listed as an alternate number for herself.
Just a weirdish experience.
It's cold again, but it's just "normal summer pattern."
