It was the router. It needed to be turned off and then on again. The refresh button did not help. But now I have the internet again, so I can pose to you this stupid question:

Or maybe it isn't a question. Anyway, there is something I don't understand why this thing happens: why am I addicted to reading fanfiction meta when I don't ordinarily enjoy reading fanfiction? Please to understand, I don't fail to enjoy fanfiction because of thinking poorly of it. Ordinarily, it's no bog thing, I just don't get into a thing that has a name in it that came from somewhere else: it jolts the suspension of disbelief. Or something. I don't know. I do know that when fanfiction does work for me it's usually from a fandom I know nothing nothing whatever of. But the point isn't what I don't usually enjoy reading, it's what always suckers me in: writing about fanfiction. What the hell?

On another front, I stayed home sickish today and spent hours on googletalk with Frank learning about military organization and technology spanning late 18th-early 20th century ( the long span is because of the Law of Uneven Development).

While we were discussing early wireless telegraphy on the battlefield I realized I could be accused of a steampunk something or other, but I don't have that in mind. I think it's not really steampunk without the science fiction flavor, and this is more like magic realism. With a wild pig.

Oh, and don't feel too annoyed with yourself about the router. My boss had some network work done several years ago, then called me because the system wasn't working. I rebooted the router, not expecting anything, and it all worked after that. He was annoyed, both with himself for not thinking of it, and for the Geek Squad guy for not bothering to do that before he left.
