What on earth is this
bridge thing
for? It doesn't have a sign on it, and it's clearly not for traveling between the houses. Is it reinforcement, to keep the buildings from collapsing into the street?

If it's anywhere near the Mediterranean I'd say building support, courtesy of frequent earthquakes.
I've seen that sort of thing elsewhere in pictures of old European neighborhoods, though never thought to wonder about it, so who knows?
