Our "likely rain" for tomorrow has been upgraded to "showers, with a chance of thunderstorms." Well, okay, it's not like we never have them, but thunderstorms are not really common around here. And also, it looks pretty wet from here until Monday.

On another front, Truffle and I met a mushroom hunter at the park. He's also the plumber who drives around the van with "425-CRAP" painted on it.

You need rain though so this is excellent!

Or -- maybe not if the ground is so hard packed from lack of moisture that the velocity of a thunderstorm merely packs it harder and it all runs off. Which is a problem already with so much area of the U.S. paved / cemented over. :(

It turns out to be exactly the best kind of rain for a nice combination of soaking in and runoff (our human water supply is surface water -- i.e., reservoirs and the river, so some runoff is vital). It's a gentle, steady rain.

But for us to have a low-normal year we'd have to get an average of two inches a week for the next two and a half months, so it's drought all around no matter what at this point.

But the rain is lovely.

It's supposed to start snowing like heck above 5000'. Over the Feather River part of the mountains anyway, should help. What would really help if they'd stop growing rice and other water intensive crops in the dry and hot Central Valley!

That's good! If the snow gets down to 3000 feet, we'll get some on Lomna Prieta.

Heh, Loma Prieta means Earthquake! to me, but then never spent much time in Santa Cruz area.

It's been raining constantly here for more than twenty four hours, so something is going to be headed down the feather river. We're at 3500'

Wait, I thought from your other comment you were in Berkeley?
