So Tanith Lee died and I was at the library so I got The Lords of Darkness.

Is it allowable that I think it's kind of appalling?

Not in the good way, alas.

I have to admit that I have never read any Tanith Lee, unless I read any of her short stories in the anthologies I read when much younger. Anyway, I've never read any of her novels. A lot of my friends are great fans of her work, but I'm reluctant to read her now for fear of a similar response to yours.

It's certainly allowable to think whatever you think.

It may be a reasonable kindness to those who grieve to hold off on detailed public analysis of what was wrong with the book for a week or so after the author's death. I wouldn't say this applies in the case of people who've directly caused real world damage.
