So I finally rode home my rummage sale bike today. Well, I got more than halfway home anyway. I hadn't been on a bike in a long time, but I remembered my strategy for making it down the steep Laurel Street hill and I tried to apply it, but I couldn't control the bike or slow it down so I tried to ditch on a piece of grass but I missed the grass and got the corner of the curb right in the middle of my nose so I have a big hole there now that I think will leave an ugly scar. I also have scrapes and bruises all over my face and on my hands. And I broke my glasses -- both lenses and they're expensive, being progressives and in glass -- and the bike is somewhat bent. And I bled all over my second-favorite shirt which is salt-and-pepper color with black dragonflies woven into it. I was only three blocks from home but I passed about six people on the way who didn't ask the shaky little old lady with blood all over her face if she was okay. I would have said yes, because I kind of was, but it would have been nice if they had asked, just in case.

Eek!

I'm glad you *are* okay. And yes, I do think in many more perfect worlds a person or two *would* have asked you if you were okay. I guess if somebody is up and moving purposefully, a lot of them would rather *not* be bothered.

Oh, no! I hope you feel OK now and that you're wrong about the scar and everything heals up just fine.

Eek is about it. I'm glad you're as OK as you are, and I wish I was there to wipe off the blood and make you a cup of tea and give you a hug.

How are you going to manage until you get new glasses?

Currently I'm wearing them, because the lenses are staying in the frames (one is is six pieces and the other has deep scratches). It's like having extremely dirty glasses.

I also have old glasses somewhere. I saw them a couple of weeks ago, but I don't remember where. I may use the old glasses -- which are annoying because they have a dark blue rim, but not far off -- until January, when the insurance allows for a new pair and the price is cut to a quarter of what it is otherwise.

I'm glad you're basically ok, and I wish your neighbors had been more neighborly.

Ouch! So sorry to hear about your accident. I hope you're not feeling too achy today.

I'm considerably worse today than yesterday, but the good thing is that my face does not look as deeply wounded as I thought. I'm going to see the doctor monday, I think, instead of driving up to the Bay Area to see my high school boyfriend (not the Hare Krishna one, the Labor Zionist Youth one -- you know what I'm talking about, Ken)for about an hour. Anyway I've got three other commitments that day: band momying, helping my friend with her computer, being around to tell my kids I'm glad they're around and have gotten another year older even if it means I have too. Frank is the age I was when he was born. Talk about scary.

Yikes!
Hope you heal quickly.

Yikes. Glad you're mostly all right!
