By day, a mild-mannered medical student, by night the Mysterious Orange Tram Dancer of Prague.

I think I know now why he said he needed orange khakis. How can he possibly wear a utilikilt outside in Prague at this time of year?

That's just freakin' fabulous. I left a comment on it over there, too. JUST FABULOUS.

I just spent some time skimming through his journal. What a delightful young man.

That's definitely a fannish child. :-)

I just found you! You answered a question about Irish songs in my friend's LiveJournal.

Well met, fellow misc.writing survivor!

Whatever happened to Chuy?

Chuy got a couple of heart-rending sweet rejection slips, the kind that make you just feel horribly guilty and tragic that the book isn't what the editor is looking for (one of them said that he thought it might be buyable if the character was more of an action hero, and the plot was more plotty -- if, in fact, the book was entirely different -- but I don't think this was obtuseness on his part, but actually a gentle way of saying "kid, I think you can write, but man, this book has nothing happening in it and Chuy's such a whiny little passive git!").

In other words, sort of like almost everything else I've ever written. It gives editors the idea that there's a writer lurking back there, but it's not exactly publishable.

I'm still trying, with other passive gits.

Of course you are -- trying with other passive gits, I mean.

It's the real artist's dilemma, isn't it? Create what others want to buy, or create what you want to say?

This journal, however, looks as though may be you've sold short material?

You do have a "voice," I can tell you. I didn't see your screen name in beamjockey's journal; I recognized the "nice fellow" reference.

For what it's worth, I liked Chuy. I don't know that I liked what happened to him, but I did like the character, very much. But then, I like passive gits.
