If you are one of the two or three or four Russians who have lately friended my journal though we appear to have no interests or friends in common, would you mind commenting here or sending me a private message explaining why?

Clearly, the internet is a free country, and there's no harm in friending someone randomly, but it piques my interest and I would loive to know what's up.

When that sort of thing happens to me, it is spambots and such ilk :(

That's what I thought, but they don't seem to be spamming me.

No, but they may be posting spam in their journals or elsewhere, but friending you lends them legitimacy and makes them harder to detect by naive anti-spam tools.

Can't I block them? Reject their mecha-friendship?

My tentative guess is that they are friending a lot of people (using multiple personas), and hoping that they'll be friended back by people whose personal information they can then suck. They're after Russians, not you.
