The panorama was taken in a meadow near the Spring Street entrance to the Pogonip park -- sort of at the brow of the hill where the University campus lies (about three miles).
That's typical oak parkland of the coastal sort. The valley sort has fewer and bigger oaks, and less scrub because Indians burned the brush for hundreds of years.
The grass is only green like that from January to early May (less than five months)-- it turns yellow then.

That is not the sort of landscape that first springs to mind when I think of California -- if the sky wasn't so blue, it would look almost English.
