So Frank's new landlord failed to tell him that he was in the middle of a dispute with the power company. He's been without electricity since soon after he moved in. I don't exactly know how he managed to send me that one message: did he pay the exporbitant rates at an internet store (five dollars for a few minutes, when I did it), or did he go to a friend's house?
Anyway, he's moving on the first, which is also when he has to sign up for classes, and I suppose I'll be hearing more from him after that.
My babies are dandy and I've lost a quarter of the weight I'd gained since Ted died.
And my dog is not pining. Much.
And Emma is recovering nicely from her surgery.
Nothing new on the writing front, but I'm percolating.

My first day at work was fine.
Frank has a flat with a Macedonian roommate, probably in Holesovice, if that means anything to you: it's not that close to Motol, where Frank's classes mostly are, but it is a relatively interesting neighborhood, and close to the Cross Club. Which is an amazing anarchist art collective bar and cafe and stuff.
So he's all right.
And I lost a couple pounds, so I think I'm on the right track there.

I passed the working interview and now I have a job taking care of the infants of teenaged mothers.
I am happy.
I jiust have to get through the next month of no money and get the house in order for a roommate and then I'll be set.
I'll pay my bills, and I'll start saving for my next trip to Prague.

Jobs applied for so far -- twelve.
Interviews -- three.
Enthusiasm high on two: but "we need someone who has taken this particular class," and "we need someone who has been a pre-K teacher specifically," and both: "We'd love to have you sub." And then silence.
The other was an eleven dollar an hour job, four hours a day, so we mutually agreed that someone else would be better.
Currently my bank account has negative something in it. I have no income.
I applied for two more jobs today.
I'm working on a third application for a job kind of way outside my field but which calls for skills I do have. I am set up to be a substitute teacher, but that will take at least another week and a half to kick in, and then I'll be competing with a very large number of teachers for a small number of places.
What I really need is someone to hold my hand while I go in to the credit union to see about either a loan or a line of credit. I understand lines of credit are higher intereast, but don't you pay only on what you use? That would be useful because I could allow myself space for however long it takes to get a real job. I've cut off the cell phone and the cable, and I'll cut off the subscriptions to charitable organizations as soon as I can actually access my account (I need to go to the credit union for that too).
I'm worried about Frank because the loan money will be late in coming as usual (bot no as late as usual, apparently) and I can't send him anything. Oh well: if it gets bad for him, there are those relatives that want to support me, I'll tell them to send the money to Prague instead.

Money is being cut back in all the educational and developmental fields, right?
Why are the job boards cluttered with advertisements for managers and supervisors and administrators of special programs, but not for teachers, aides and other people who directly "deliver the services to the clients?"
I'm envisioning these outfits becoming all administrators, with nobody in the field at all.

Yesterday the power was off all day at work. PG&E had a crew doing something to a power pole on the block. They expected to have us back online about 3 p.m. The opening staff assumed we would be closing early if we didn't get our power back, but no . . . we weren't allowed to call the parents when we heard that the power was not coming on till five: but what actually happened was that the power never came on. So we were closing the windows to keep the heat in (so glad once again that I do not live in a place where it gets really cold: our combined body heat really is enough to keep us warm under those conditions), heating water for bottles on the Sterno, and hoping the refrigerator stayed cold enough to keep the breast milk and lunches in the safe zone. And doing the cleaning in the dark.
The babies didn't mind the dark, naturally. Children like darkness as a special treat.
Cool thing! Belly-laugh baby, who is now in the toddler room, said my name yesterday! multiple times! It sounds rather like ʔu-ʔi, if I spelled that right: those are glottal stops, correct? I adore that kid.
Those streetlights -- they have behaved that way two more times each, and not one more time each. If I passed them the same time every day, I'd have a simple explanation. But honestly, I didn't start noticing those streetlights at all until recently. I'm not looking for a sensational explanation: "luck of the draw" is good enough for me. I do like walking home in the dark, which says something about my neighborhood and the downtown.
I still wish Edwards had waited until today to drop out of the race. I'd really like him to have another stack of delegates to go i nto the convention with. Oh well. My favorite archaeologist says that he dropped out when he did to help Obama, though as of my last information he had very specifically not endorsed either Clinton or Obama. And while we're on the subject of electoral speculation, could somebody just bribe Maureen Dowd to shut up? Nothing she says is useful in any way anymore.
nothing else. Zero words today, went to physical therapy instead. I love my physical therapist.
